How it works

From an area application to the first day.

1

Apply for your area

Choose the town you live in and send one application for that area. The application fee is R1,500 and is not refundable. If the 20 places are full, you can join that area’s waiting list instead.

2

We talk it through

We call to confirm the child’s grade, subjects and monthly fee, and to check that the daily trip to the Grabouw hub is realistic.

3

Register with the partner

Your child is registered with an accredited online school partner. We help with the paperwork.

4

Start in January 2027

Your child comes to the hub, logs in and learns with a facilitator nearby. First day: [DATE TO BE CONFIRMED].

The hub

Online school is hard alone. So nobody learns alone.

The curriculum stays online. The hub is the classroom: a person, a desk, internet and power in Grabouw.

A recognised curriculum

CAPS lessons, marking and assessment come from the accredited online partner, in English or Afrikaans where the partner offers it.

A facilitator and classmates

Someone in the room keeps the day on schedule, helps when a lesson is stuck, and organises Maths and Science support.

Internet that stays on

Fibre with a mobile-data backup, so a line fault does not cost a lesson.

Power through load-shedding

An inverter and battery keep the hub running when the grid drops.

Areas

Apply for the area you live in.

There is one hub, in Grabouw. Each application is for a home area, so we know who is travelling in. The 20 first-year places are shared. Times below are approximate drives to the hub.

Fees

One monthly amount, plus the application fee.

Monthly fees are the partner school’s tuition plus a R3,000 hub fee for the seat, facilitator, devices and internet, paid over 10 months. Applying is separate.

Indicative only, based on 2026 partner fees for the entry package (Standard for Grades 10–12). Final 2027 fees are confirmed at enrolment. Each area application has a R1,500 non-refundable fee. Grade 12 learners also pay exam fees directly, about R1,960 per subject.

Questions

What parents ask us first

Is Elgin Valley Academy a registered school?

We are a supervised learning hub. Your child is registered with an accredited online school partner, which provides the CAPS curriculum, sets assessments and issues reports. Matric exams are written through the partner at a registered exam centre.

What does the application cost?

Each area application has a R1,500 non-refundable fee. The waiting list does not. Monthly fees are separate: partner tuition for the grade plus a R3,000 hub fee, paid over 10 months. Grade 12 exam fees are extra.

Does my child need their own laptop or data?

No. Shared laptops are used at the hub, with a desk and fast internet. Children who want to revise at home can use their own device.

When do classes start and what are the hours?

The 2027 school year starts in January [DATE TO BE CONFIRMED]. Hub hours will follow the school day: [HOURS TO BE CONFIRMED].

Can I apply for more than one area?

Yes. Send a separate application for each area. Each application has its own R1,500 non-refundable fee. A child attends the Grabouw hub from the area you confirm with us.
